  • June 2015: In May 2015, Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants captured the border checkpoint at Al-Tanf.
  • April 2016: The U.S.-backed New Syrian Army rebel faction captured the al-Tanf post on the Syrian side of the border in early March 2016. Al-Tanf is de facto a United States military base in Syria's Homs Governorate located 24 km west of the al-Tanf border crossing in the Syrian Desert. The surrounding deconfliction zone is located along the Iraq and Jordan-Syria border.

    Were a series of battles in and around Al-Sukhnah, in the Homs Governatorate, during the Syrian Civil War.

  • July 2017: Syrian government military operations to retake Al-Sukhnah.
  • July 2017: By 27 July 2017, the government forces had reached and captured strategic hills less than two kilometres from the town of Al-Sukhnah.
  • August 2017: The government forces recaptured the town of Al Sukhnah.
