Chronology

Interactive Chronologies with maps are available in the section Changes Navigation

  • January 408: A barbarian horde of extraordinary proportions, made up of Vandals, Alans and Suebi, driven westward by the Huns, crossed the frozen Rhine and penetrated into Gaul.
  • December 406: On 31 December 406 a large army of Alans, Suebi and Vandals broke through the frontier. During this invasion the Alemanni appear to have crossed the Rhine River one last time, conquering and then settling what is now Alsace and large parts of the Swiss plateau.
