  • March 1979: The leaders of North Yemen, President Ali Abdullah Saleh, and South Yemen, President Abdul Fattah Ismail, called a bilateral ceasefire in 1979. This marked a significant moment in the ongoing conflict between the two regions, eventually leading to the unification of Yemen in 1990.
  • March 1979: Southern Yemen forces capturied a wide range of Northern territory and besieged the cities of Taizz and Al Bayda.
