January 1201: Mayurbhanj State was established in the 12th century by the Bhanj dynasty.

Was the partition of British India in two independent entities: India (with a Hindu majority) and Pakistan (with a Muslim majority). This included the several princely states that were dependent on the British Colony.
January 1949: Accession to India (exact date not known). The Indian Independence Act came into being on 15 August.
January 1494: In 1493, Sambalpur State was established by Balaram Deo, a Rajput from the Chauhan dynasty and the younger brother of Raja Narsingh Deo, the ruler of the kingdom of Patna. The territory of Sambalpur State expanded during this time.
January 1621: Saraikela State was founded in 1620 by Raja Bikram Singh, who was a forerunner to the ruling family's current nomenclature of Singh Deo. The state was located in present-day Jharkhand, India.
January 1751: In the 18th century Faza again fell into decline due to the rise of Pate.
January 1830: The Mayurbhanj State became a British protectorate in 1829.
