    1. Partition of India


    Was the partition of British India in two independent entities: India (with a Hindu majority) and Pakistan (with a Muslim majority). This included the several princely states that were dependent on the British Colony.

  • July 1947: The accession to the Indian Union was signed by the Maharaja of Bikaner on 7 August 1947.

  • January 1651: After Kahal Chand had built Kahlur Fort the state was named after it. Initially the capital of the state was at a place named Jhandbari — now in Hoshiarpur district — and then it was transferred to Kahlur Fort, but was later moved permanently to Bilaspur.

  • January 1701: Rana Mahindar Singh, the son of Dalel Singh, is the first ruler for which historians have written records. During his reign, in 1790, Baghát regained its independence from Biláspur, to which it appears to have been subjugated to for an unknown period of time.

  • January 1728: Bahawalpur state was founded in 1727 AD by Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi, who was a descendant of the Abbasid Caliphs. He established the state after breaking away from the Durrani Empire, establishing a prosperous and independent kingdom in the region.

  • January 1791: Baghát gained its independence.

  • January 1802: The formal start of the Sikh Empire began with the unification of the Misls (states) by 1801, creating a unified political state.

  • September 1818: Bikaner State became a British protectorate on 9 March 1818.
