    1. Conquests of Akbar the Great


    Expansion during the rule of Akbar the Great in the Mughal Empire.

  • January 1601: The western portion of Koch Bihar, formed a separate unit that came under direct challenge by the Mughal Empire.

  • 2. Ahom-Mughal conflicts


    A series of conflicts between the Mughal Empire and the Ahom Kingdom in Assam.

  • January 1651: Koch Bihar falls under Ahom control through dynastic alliance.
  • January 1659: Aurangzeb, after ascending on the throne of Delhi, ordered Mir Jumla to invade Cooch Behar.

  • 3. Partition of India


    Was the partition of British India in two independent entities: India (with a Hindu majority) and Pakistan (with a Muslim majority). This included the several princely states that were dependent on the British Colony.

  • January 1950: When the British colonial rule was finally terminated in India, the Koch Bihar state immediately acceded to and merged with India in 1949 and became a part of West Bengal.

  • January 1523: King Suhungmung extended the Ahom Kingdom to the mouth of the Tiphao River, where a new fort was constructed.

  • January 1587: The kingdom of the Koch Dynasty split in two: Koch Bihar and Koch Hajo.

  • January 1587: Cooch Behar State was formed in 1586 when the Kamata Kingdom split after the death of Nara Narayan, a ruler from the Koch dynasty. The territory went to Cooch Behar State, which was ruled by the Koch dynasty.
