A country in North Africa. Algeria is bordered to the northeast by Tunisia; to the east by Libya; to the southeast by Niger; to the southwest by Mali, Mauritania, and Western Sahara; to the west by Morocco; and to the north by the Mediterranean Sea. It is considered part of the Maghreb region of North Africa.

    1. Algerian War


    Was a conflict fought between France and the Algerian National Liberation Front from 1954 to 1962, which led to Algeria winning its independence from France.


    2. Sand War


    Was a border conflict between Algeria and Morocco.

  • September 1963: In 1963, during the Sand War between Morocco and Algeria, the Royal Moroccan Army, led by King Hassan II, crossed into Algeria and captured the border posts of Hassi-Beida and Tindjoub. This military occupation escalated tensions between the two countries.
  • October 1963: The Algerian forces began to retaliate against the Moroccan advances, taking back the ports of Hassi-Beida and Tindjoub.

    Is an ongoing conflict in Mali mainly between government forces, the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad, and Islamist forces. The conflict started in 2012.
