Was a multi-ethnic kingdom whose land extends to what is today Northeast China, the Korean Peninsula and the Russian Far East.
Establishment
January 699: Balhae was established by refugees from Goguryeo and Tungusic Mohe tribes in 698, when the first king, Dae Joyeong, defeated the Wu Zhou dynasty at Tianmenling.

January 700: In 699, Go Deokmu rebelled and created Lesser Goguryeo.
January 700: Little Goguryeo is said to have been established by refugees of Goguryeo after its defeat by the Tang dynasty in 699.
January 733: Shanhai Pass annexed to Belhae Kingdom.
January 742: Expansion of the Tang Dynasty by 741 AD.
January 794: King Mun was a ruler of the Balhae Kingdom, a state in present-day Northeast China and Korea. He was known for expanding the kingdom's territory, reaching the northern borders in the Amur valley in 793. This expansion marked a significant milestone in the kingdom's history.
January 821: Lesser Goguryeo was absorbed into Balhae during the reign King Seon of Balhae.
January 902: Silla, after nearly a millennium as a centralized kingdom, was quickly declining, and Gung Ye instigated his own rebellion and absorbed Wang Geon's forces at Songak. In 898, He set up the capital in Songak and eventually defeated Yang Gil and other local lords in central Korea to proclaim himself king in 901. The state's initial name was Goryeo.
January 909: Liao ruler Abaoji led a campaign against the steppe nomadas and conquered the territory of the Shiwei.
January 911: The Liao Dynasty conquers the territory of the Xi (Kumo Xi).
Disestablishment
January 927: Balhae Kingdom conquered by liao dynasty.
