  • January 601: Vishakhavarman of the Pitrbhakta Dynasty was probably overthrown by the Eastern Gangas, who had captured his kingdom by the 6th century CE.

  • January 1039: By 1038 AD the Ganga Dynasty reigned over the entire region of Kalinga.

  • January 1051: Rajendra Chola I conquered Odisha.

  • February 1051: Rajendra Chola I occupied Odisha, but left the region after defeating the forces of the Pala Dynasty.

  • January 1098: The Simroun, Karnat or Dev dynasty originated with an establishment of a kingdom in 1097 CE headquartered at present day Simroungarh in Bara district. The kingdom controlled the areas today known as Tirhoot or Mithila in Nepal and Bihar of India.

  • January 1101: The Somavamshi rule ended in the early 12th century, when the Eastern Ganga ruler Anantavarman Chodaganga captured their territories.

  • January 1125: Pala Emperor Kumarapala expanded his empire by conquering Kamarupa and Rar, and asserting his dominance over the Varman king of east Bengal in 1124.

  • January 1151: A legend states that Talcher was founded in the 12th century by one of four brothers belonging to the Kachwaha Rajput dynasty of Jaipur who were on a pilgrimage to Puri. During the same journey another brother became the ruler of Bonai State and two others were killed.

  • January 1151: Keonjhar State was founded sometime in the first half of the 12th century, the founder being Jati Singh (Jyoti Bhanj), brother of Adi Singh (Adi Bhanj), founder of Mayurbhanj State.

  • January 1164: Early Kakatiya rulers served as feudatories to Rashtrakutas and Western Chalukyas for more than two centuries. They assumed sovereignty under Prataparudra I in 1163 CE by suppressing other Chalukya subordinates in the Telangana region.

  • January 1179: The Atgarh State was founded by Raja Sri Karan Niladri Bebarta Patnaik of the Karan community in 1178.

  • January 1226: Anangabhima Deva III, the Eastern Ganga ruler, sent a large force under the command of his able Brahman commander, Vishnu. The two forces met face to face at the Seori Narayana village in undivided Sambalpur district on the banks of the river called Bhima near the Vindhya hills and the Kalchuris were defeated for the first time in a major way by the Gangas.

  • January 1251: Jatavarman Sundara I ascended the Pandya throne in 1251 CE. He led his army to the Chola country (even as far as Nellore), to Sri Lanka and to south Kerala.

  • January 1281: Seuna ruler Ramachandra subjugated the rulers of Vajrakara (probably modern Vairagarh) and Bhandagara.

  • January 1291: The Khalji or Khilji dynasty was a Muslim dynasty which ruled large parts of the Indian subcontinent between 1290 and 1320. It was founded by Jalal ud din Firuz Khalji and became the second dynasty to rule the Delhi Sultanate of India.

  • January 1293: According to legend Narsinghpur was founded in 1292 by a Rajput named Dharma Singh after defeating two powerful Khond chiefs named Narsingh and Poro, the state being named after the former.

  • January 1325: Bastar State was founded in the early 14th century, supposedly by a brother of the last ruler of the Kakatiya dynasty proper, Prataparudra II.
