Was a precolonial Sultanate in present-day northeastern and central Somalia and eastern Ethiopia. In late 1888, Sultan Kenadid entered into a treaty with the Italians, making his realm an Italian protectorate.

  • January 1879: In 1878, the Majeerteen Sultanate split into two separate entities, with one faction establishing the Sultanate of Hobyo (Obbia). This new sultanate was founded by Sultan Yusuf Ali Kenadid, who aimed to expand his influence in the region.
