Was a kingdom founded by the Edo people around 600 AD, in Nigeria. It was the predecessor of the Benin Empire.

  • January 601: The Kingdom of Benin was founded by the Ogiso dynasty around 600 AD. According to oral history of the Edo, Igodomigodo was the name of the kingdom as given by Igodo, the first ogiso (King).

  • January 1044: According to Igbo oral tradition, the Kingdom of Nri, began in 1043.

  • January 1071: Owo, an important Yoruba state, founded.
