A pre-colonial Central African state in what is now northwest Cameroon. It was founded by the Bamun, an ethnic group from northeast Cameroon. Its capital was the ancient walled city of Fumban.

Establishment


  • January 1395: The Kingdom of Bamum, founded in 1394, was a pre-colonial state in northwest Cameroon. It was ruled by King Nsangou and Queen Ngoungoure, known for their cultural and artistic achievements. In 1394, the territory expanded to include the region marked on the map.
