Chandradeva, the first monarch of the dynasty, established a sovereign kingdom sometime before 1090 CE, after the decline of the Kalachuri power. It ruled parts of the present-day Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Establishment
January 1091: Chandradeva, the first monarch of the Gahadavala Dynasty, established a sovereign kingdom sometime before 1090 CE, after the decline of the Kalachuri power. The 1090 CE Chandrawati inscription of Chandradeva states that he protected the sacred places of Kashi, Kushika, Uttara Koshala and Indrasthaniyaka.

1. Events
January 1098: The Simroun, Karnat or Dev dynasty originated with an establishment of a kingdom in 1097 CE headquartered at present day Simroungarh in Bara district. The kingdom controlled the areas today known as Tirhoot or Mithila in Nepal and Bihar of India.
January 1156: The Gahadavala Dynasty reached its zenith under Govindachandra.
January 1195: In 1194 CE, Govindachandra's grandson Jayachandra was defeated by the Ghurids, which effectively ended the Gahadavala dynasty's imperial power. According to historian Roma Niyogi, it is possible that he still controlled Kanyakubja, as no contemporary Muslim historians mention that the Ghurids captured the city at that time.
Disestablishment
January 1198: The Gahadavala Kingdom ceased to exist when Jayachandra's successors were defeated by the Delhi Sultanate in the 12th century.
