Establishment
January 1538: Kaabu, a powerful West African empire, became independent in 1537 under the leadership of King Kikikor.

January 1651: Kaarta was a historical kingdom in western Mali, founded in the 17th century by the Bambaras.
January 1726: The Imamate of Futa Jallon is founded in 1725 by a Fulani-led jihadists.
January 1751: Manga Swara becomes the first king of the chiefdom of Koba.
January 1801: During the 19th century, Portuguese explorers and traders established settlements along the rivers of Guinea, including Bissau, Cacheu, and Ziguinchor. These settlements were key points for trade and colonization in Portuguese Guinea, now known as Guinea Bissau.
January 1801: Manga Wuli I becomes the first king of the chiefdom of Bramaya.

January 1866: In 1865 the French built a fort at Boké, in the Rio Nunez area, expanding from the main French-controlled town of Conakry.
Disestablishment
January 1868: Kansala, the imperial capital of Kaabu Empire, was annexed by Futa Jallon during the 19th century Fula jihads.
