President Henri of Haiti was proclaimed King Henry I, thereby dissolving the State of Haiti and creating the Kingdom of Haiti. The Kingdom was conquered by its southern counterpart, the Republic of Haiti, in 1820.

    1. War of Christophe´s Secession


    On 26 March 1811, Henri Christophe created a kingdom in the north of Haiti and was later proclaimed Henry I, King of Haïti.

  • October 1820: Haiti: Ill and infirm at age fifty-three, King Henry committed suicide by shooting himself with a silver bullet rather than risk a coup and assassination. His son and heir was assassinated 10 days later. King Henry was buried within the Citadelle Laferriere.
