Was a precolonial kingdom on the Atlantic coast of central Africa, spanning on territories of Angola, Republic of the Congo and Democratic Republic of the Congo. It originated from the union of several local kingdoms, in particular the Kingdoms of Mpemba Kasi and of Mbata. From 1857 to 1914 it was a vassal state of the Kingdom of Portugal, until being absorbed into the Colony of Angola.

January 1376: Merge of Mpemba Kasi with Mbata Kingdom to form the Kingdom of Kongo around 1375 AD.

October 1709: After the battle of Mbula, Pedro dedicated himself to reunifying Kongo.
January 1451: The Nsoundi Kingdom was incorporated into Kongo's domains probably in the early to mid-fifteenth century.
January 1492: Expansion of the Kingdom of Kongo by 1491.
January 1501: The kingdom or polity of Vungu was a historic mini-state located on the north bank of the Congo River near the modern day town of Matadi in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
January 1501: Thie Confederation of the Seven Kingdoms of Kongo dia Nlaza was first mentioned in texts of the Kingdom of Kongo in the late 16th century, although it probably existed much earlier. It is unclear what the Seven Kingdoms were, though perhaps they included Kundi and Okanga.
January 1519: Around 1518, the Manikongo Alphonse, the ruler of the Kingdom of Kongo, armed by Portugal, annexed the Kingdom of Loango to expand his empire's territory.
January 1531: In 1530, the territory of Angola was under the Kingdom of Ngola-Ndongo. The title of "Angola" was listed among the titles of the King of Kongo in 1535, suggesting a subordinate relationship between the two kingdoms at that time.
January 1531: In 1530, the Baixa de Cassange region of Malanje Province in modern-day Angola paid tribute to the King of Kongo, Afonso I. This marked the first documented mention of the Kingdom of Matamba in historical records.
January 1536: The Kakongo Kingdom is mentioned for the first time in the titles used in 15 35 by the king of Congo, Afonso I.
January 1536: In a letter written by Alfonso I, king of the Congo in 1535, Vungu is mentioned among places that he ruled as king.
January 1566: Around 1565, Njembe led Loango to independence and founded the third dynasty.
Disestablishment
January 1858: Kingdom of Kongo becomes a vassal state of Portugal.
