Is a country on the southern coast of West Africa. Its capital is Yamoussoukro, in the centre of the country, while its largest city and economic centre is the port city of Abidjan. Ivory Coast gained independence from France in 1960. It officially adopted the denomination of Republic of Côte d´Ivoire in 1986.

May 1986: In April 1986, the government declared that République de Côte d'Ivoire would be its formal name for the purposes of diplomatic protocol, and since then officially refuses to recognize or accept any translation from French to another language in its international dealings.
