Is an island country in the Mediterranean Sea. It consists of an archipelago, between Italy and Libya. A British possessions since the Napoleonic Wars, it gained independency in 1974.

Establishment

December 1974: Following amendments to the Constitution by the Labour government of Dom Mintoff, the monarchy was abolished and Malta became a republic within the Commonwealth.
