1.1.Second Caspian expedition of the Rus'
During the second Rus' expedition in the Caspain Sea in 943, the Rus' captured Bardha'a, the capital of Arran, in the modern-day Republic of Azerbaijan. The Rus' stayed there for several months, killing many inhabitants of the city and amassing substantial plunder. It was only an outbreak of dysentery among the Rus' that forced them to depart with their spoils.

January 1044: In around 1043 the Seljuk sultan Toghril Beg received the submission of the salar of Tarum, who became his vassal and submitted tribute.
January 930: After the death of Yusuf ibn Abu Saj, the last ruler of the Sajid dynasty Deysam ibn Ibrahim was defeated by the ruler of Daylam Marzban ibn Muhammad who ended the Sajid dynasty and founded the Sallarid dynasty.
January 936: Hasan ibn Buya was a member of the Buyid Dynasty, which was a Shia Persian dynasty that ruled over Iran and Iraq. Mardavij was a powerful ruler in the region, and his death allowed Hasan ibn Buya to seize control of Isfahan from the Ziyarid dynasty.
January 952: Muhammad ibn Shaddad conquers Dwin.

January 1015: Kvirike III declared himself King of Kakheti and Hereti.
