  • January 1801: The Majeerteen Sultanate was established around 1800 by Somalis from the Majeerteen Darod clan, led by Sultan Yusuf Ali Kenadid. The territory expanded along the northeastern coast of present-day Somalia, with its capital at Alula.

  • Disestablishment


  • January 1885: In 1884, the UK established the protectorate of British Somalia through various treaties with the sultanates of Northern Somalia including Dir, Isaaq, Harti and Warsangali.
