Establishment
January 1237: At the turn of the 13th century the male line of the Abenbergs died out. Through marriage, Abenberg came to the burgraves of Nuremberg around 1236 and thus to the Hohenzollerns.

January 1332: After the male line of the Dornberg died out in 1288, the bailiwick was inherited by Ludwig von Oettingen, who was married to a daughter of Wolfram von Dornberg. In 1331 Ludwig von Oettingen sold this property to Friedrich IV, the then burgrave of Nuremberg.
January 1357: In 1299, Abenberg received city rights, and in 1356 it became a caretaker office in Eichstätt.

January 1398: On 21 January 1398, the territories of Ansbach and Bayreuth were partitioned from the Burgraviate of Nuremberg. This division was carried out by the ruling Hohenzollern family, with Frederick V, Burgrave of Nuremberg, granting Ansbach to his younger son Frederick VI and Bayreuth to his elder son John III.
