After the dissolution of the Ghana Empire, a Sarokalé chief founded the Kingdom of Sosso in modern-day Mali.

Establishment

January 1151: After the fall of the Empire of Ghana, a Sarakolé chief founded the Kingdom of Sosso in the region of Koulikoro.

1. Events

January 1201: In 1200, the kingdoms of Diarra, Sosso, and Mali in West Africa acquired their independence. The Sosso Empire, led by King Soumaoro Kante, was a powerful state that controlled the region before being conquered by the Mali Empire under Sundiata Keita.
