  • January 1201: Based on available maps, in 1200 the comune federale frignanese was annexed by the Reggio Emilia Commune. This marked a significant shift in power dynamics in the region, as the Reggio Emilia Commune was a prominent city-state in northern Italy during the Middle Ages.

  • January 1201: Expansion of the Reggio Emilia Commune (based on maps).

  • January 1281: The city of Suzzara was conquered by the Gonzaga family of Mantua.

  • January 1289: Ferrara conquers Modena and Reggio Emilia.

  • January 1307: The people of Reggio, aided by Gilberto da Correggio, lord of Parma, expelled the Estense family, restoring the citizens' freedoms (1306).
