Is a country in northeastern Africa. Modern Egypt's history as a separate country starts with the Egypt Eyalet in 1806, which was nominally an Ottoman province. After a period of British influence, Egypt gained independence as Kingdom of Egypt in 1922. It took its modern form in 1953 under the rule of Mohammed Naguib following the Egyptian Revolution, in which the Kingdom of Egypt's Muhammad Ali Dynasty came to an end.
