Was one of the three successor rump states of the Byzantine Empire after the crusaders of the Fourth Crusade overthrew Alexios V and established the Latin Empire. The Empire of Trebzond did not join the Byzantine Empire after it was re-established. It ended in 1461 when it was conquered by the Byzantine Empire.
