Was a French Colony in West Africa. From an administrative point of view it was part of French West Africa for most of its existence. Most of its territories came from the Kénédougou Kingdom and Toucouleur Empire, two large precolonial polities of the region that France conquered at the end of the XIX century. It was a predecessor of modern Mali.
