Is a country in West Africa. It is bordered by Togo to the west, Nigeria to the east, Burkina Faso to the north-west, and Niger to the north-east. Its existence started as the Kingdom of Dahomey in precolonial times. It later was a French colony before gaining full independence in 1960. The modern country of Benin originated in 1990.
