Is a country in East Asia that occupies the southern half of the Korean Peninsula. In 1910 whole Korea was annexed by Japan. After Japan's defeat in World War the Korean Pensinsula was divided in a Soviet and an American occupation zone. The U.S. zone gained independency as the Republic of Korea in 1948.
