  • January 589: Expansion of the Lombard Kingdom by 588.

  • 1. Lombard conquest of Parma and Piacenza


    Lombard king Agilulf conquered Parma and Piacenza from the Byzantines.

  • January 594: Agilulfo himself proceeded to reconquer Parma and Piacenza and arrived, in 593, to threaten Rome itself. Pope Gregory I, to avoid the sack of the city, in 593, had to pay Agilulf, king of the Lombards and head of the Christian-Aryan Church, 500 pounds of gold.
