March 2013: Ayn Issa is conquered by opposition forces during the Raqqa campaign (2012-13).

February 2014: ISIL conquered Ayn Issa from other rebel forces in January 2014.

June 2015: In June 2015, Ayn Issa was taken over by the Kurdish People's Protection Units (Kurdish People's Defense Units (YPG)) militia, Women's Protection Units (YPJ), and the Raqqa Revolutionaries Brigade in the course of their Tell Abyad offensive.

July 2015: Ayn Issa was shortly recaptured by ISIL militants.

July 2015: Ayn Issa was reclaimed by the Kurdish People's Defense Units (YPG) in early July.
