    1. War between Athens and Macedon (433-431 BC)


    Was a war between Athens and the Kingdom of Macedonia that preceded the Peloponnesian War of 431-404 BC.

  • January 431 BC: The Athenians, considering the conquest of Argos by the Ambraciots dangerous, sent an expedition under the command of Formio, who destroyed the city and enslaved the inhabitants (432 BC).

  • January 430 BC: After a first attempt at reconquest (431 BC), the Ambraciots allied themselves with Eurylochus who marched to Amphilochian Argos with 3,000 hoplites. The results of the expedition were ephemeral: the Athenians, under the command of Demosthenes, reconquered the city for the Acarnanians and concluded a peace with the Ambraciots.
