Was an Empire in West Africa, founded in antiquity around 350 AD. It was located in in modern-day Mauretania and Mali. It has no ties to modern Ghana.

January 1077: In 1076, the Almoravid Caliphate occupied the Ghana Empire.
January 801: The Takrur Kingdom was an ancient state of West Africa which flourished roughly parallel to the Ghana Empire.
January 1051: The Manding (or Mandé) region was divided into three provinces ruled by the Malinké clans: the Condé ruled over the province of Do, the Camara over the Bouré and the Keita Konaté allied to the Traoré in the Kiri. Around 1050, the Keita Konaté clan won out over the others. They converted to Islam and refused submission to the Ghana Empire.
January 1088: The occupation of the Ghana Empire by the Almoravids lasted until 1087.
January 1101: The Kingdom of Diarra, also called Kingui, is an ancient West African state, founded by the Mandingos. The vast kingdom of Diarra had under its authority several vassal states: Guidimakha, Diafounou, Kaarta, Kaniarémé, Guidioumé. Towards the end of the 11th century, the Empire of Ouagadou weakened following the attacks of the Almoravids. The Diarra took advantage of this to free itself from the domination of Ouagadou.
January 1151: After the fall of the Empire of Ghana, a Sarakolé chief founded the Kingdom of Sosso in the region of Koulikoro.
January 1201: In 1200, the kingdoms of Diarra, Sosso, and Mali gained independence from the Ghana Empire. Sundiata Keita, a legendary warrior and founder of the Mali Empire, played a crucial role in this period of political upheaval.
January 1201: At the end of the 12th century the Mandé people established their polity. Their first king was Naré Maghann Konaté.
January 1201: In 1200, the kingdoms of Diarra, Sosso, and Mali in West Africa acquired their independence. The Sosso Empire, led by King Soumaoro Kante, was a powerful state that controlled the region before being conquered by the Mali Empire under Sundiata Keita.
January 1204: Soumaoro Kanté, head of the kingdom of Sosso, seized Ghana in 1203.
January 1236: After the Battle of Kirina in 1235, the kingdom of Sosso is then integrated into the empire of Mali.
