Is a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. Formerly a British Colony obtained through treaties with the Qing Dynasty, it was given back peacefully to China in 1997 at the end of the lease specified in the treaties.

Establishment

July 1997: Return of the whole colony to China as a special administrative region.
