Is a special administrative region of China in the western Pearl River Delta by the South China Sea. It was leased to Portugal by the Ming Dynasty in 1557. After the 1987 Sino-Portuguese Joint Declaration that called Macau a "Chinese territory under Portuguese administration", Macau was transferred to China on 20 December 1999.

December 1999: The 1987 Sino-Portuguese Joint Declaration called Macau a "Chinese territory under Portuguese administration". The granting of full sovereignty to the People's Republic of China was transferred in a ceremony on 20 December 1999.
