Was one of the private colonies of the American Colonization Society (ACS) founded in Liberia. The ACS was an organization that encouraged and supported the migration African-Americans to Africa. The colony joined Liberia in 1857.

Establishment

May 1854: New Maryland declared its independence under the name Maryland in Liberia.
