Is a country in Western Asia, located south to Iraq. In June 1961, Kuwait became independent with the end of the British protectorate and the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah became Emir of Kuwait.

1. Gulf War

Was the military intervention by a United Nations-authorized coalition led by the U.S. in 1991 to free Kuwait from Iraqi forces that occupied the country since August 1990.

1.1.Iraqi invasion of Kuwait

In August 1990 Iraq invaded and annexed the neighboring State of Kuwait. Iraq's subsequent refusal to withdraw from Kuwait led to a military intervention by UN forces (known as the First Gulf War).

August 1990: Alaa Hussein Ali is appointed Prime Minister of the Provisional Government of Free Kuwait and Ali Hassan al-Majid is appointed Governor of the Kuwait Governorate, which is declared the 19th Governorate of Iraq.

1.2.Liberation of Kuwait

During the First Gulf War, a coalition led by the United States liberated Kuwait from Iraqi military occupation.

February 1991: In 1991, President George H.W. Bush announced a ceasefire in Kuwait, declaring victory over the Iraqi Army. This marked the end of the Gulf War, which began when Iraq invaded Kuwait in August 1990. The liberation of Kuwait was a significant moment in the conflict, with the international coalition forces successfully driving out the Iraqi troops.

2. Further events (Unrelated to Any War)

January 1970: A demarcation agreement dividing the Neutral Zone of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia was signed on 17 December 1967 but did not formally take effect until the exchange of instruments and signing which took place in Kuwait on 18 December 1969. Ratification followed on 18 January 1970.
