  • January 1753: In 1752, the Sheikhdom of Kuwait gained independence from the Khalidi Emirate of Al Hasa under the leadership of Sabah I bin Jaber. This marked the beginning of Kuwait's sovereignty as a separate entity.

    1. Kuwaiti-Rashidi war


    Was a conflict between the Sheikhdom of Kuwait and the Emirate of Jabal Shammar which was fought from 1900 to 1901.

  • February 1901: Kuwaitis moved into Najd towards at the end of February 1901.
  • March 1901: The Kuwaitis captured Unaizah, Buraidah and Al Zulfi.
  • March 1901: The Kuwaitis also captured most of Riyadh.
  • March 1901: Upon hearing of the Kuwaiti invasion, Ibn Saud, brought his troops to the border with Kuwait, and the emir of Kuwait decided to leave the occupied regions of Jabal Shammar.

    2.1.Kuwait-Najd War

    Was a war between the Saudi state of Nejd and Kuwait caused by the Saudis goal to annex Kuwait.

  • December 1922: The Uqair Protocol or Uqair Convention was an agreement at Uqair on 2 December 1922 which defined the boundaries between Iraq and the Sultanate of Nejd and between Kuwait and Nejd. It was imposed by Percy Cox, the British High Commissioner to Iraq, in response to Bedouin raiders from Nejd under Ibn Saud.

    Was the military intervention by a United Nations-authorized coalition led by the U.S. in 1991 to free Kuwait from Iraqi forces that occupied the country since August 1990.

    3.1.Iraqi invasion of Kuwait

    In August 1990 Iraq invaded and annexed the neighboring State of Kuwait. Iraq's subsequent refusal to withdraw from Kuwait led to a military intervention by UN forces (known as the First Gulf War).

    During the First Gulf War, a coalition led by the United States liberated Kuwait from Iraqi military occupation.

  • February 1991: In 1991, President George H.W. Bush announced a ceasefire in Kuwait, declaring victory over the Iraqi Army. This marked the end of the Gulf War, which began when Iraq invaded Kuwait in August 1990. The liberation of Kuwait was a significant moment in the conflict, with the international coalition forces successfully driving out the Iraqi troops.

  • January 1899: The Sheikhdom became a British protectorate between 1899 and 1961 after the Anglo-Kuwaiti agreement of 1899 was signed between Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah and the British government in India due to threats to Kuwait's independence from the Ottoman Empire.

  • June 1961: In June 1961, Kuwait gained independence from British control, with Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah becoming the Emir of Kuwait. This marked the end of British protectorate status in the Sheikhdom of Kuwait.

  • January 1970: A demarcation agreement dividing the Neutral Zone of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia was signed on 17 December 1967 but did not formally take effect until the exchange of instruments and signing which took place in Kuwait on 18 December 1969. Ratification followed on 18 January 1970.
