The Syrian Transitional Government was established in December 2024 by the Syrian opposition after Ahmed al-Sharaa, Emir of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham and now the de facto Syrian head of state, appointed Mohammed al-Bashir as Prime Minister.

  • December 2024: The Syrian transitional Government was established in December 2024 by the Syrian opposition after Ahmed al-Sharaa, Emir of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham and now the de facto Syrian head of state, appointed Mohammed al-Bashir as Prime Minister, replacing Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali on 10 December.
  • December 2024: The Syrian Transitional Government takes over all the territories controlled by Baathist forces. At the same time clashes with remaining government forces continue.
  • December 2024: Israeli tanks were also reported as far as Qatana, 26 kilometres (16 mi) from Damascus
  • December 2024: The presence of Israeli forces was reported in Ma'ariya.

    1. Arab Spring


    Initially a series of anti-government protests and revolts across the Arab world, it soon evolved into a series of wars. The wars caused by the revolts are sometimes referred to as the Arab Winter.

    Is an ongoing civil war in Syria between the government (the Syrian Arab Republic) and several factions. The civil war started in 2011 with protests, part of the wider Arab Spring, caused by discontent with the Syrian government.

    1.1.1.Israeli invasion of Syria

    After the Fall of the Assad Regime, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) to take control of the Purple Line, a demilitarized zone from which Israeli forces had withdrawn in 1974, until a new agreement could be reached with the emerging Syrian government.

    1.1.2.2024 Syrian opposition offensives

    Was a major offensive by a coalition of Syrian revolutionary factions. It eventually resulted in the Fall of the Assad Regime and the Creation of the Syrian transitional government.
