Is a transcontinental country spanning the southern part of North America and the northern part of South America. The separation of Panama from Colombia was formalized on 3 November 1903, with the establishment of the Republic of Panama. The Panama canal zone was controlled by the United States from 1903 to 1979, and was under joint U.S.-Panamian control from 1979 to 1999.

    1. Coto War


    Was a conflict between Panama and Costa Rica over territorial disputes.

  • March 1921: Panama was forced by the United States to accept the White ruling and to cede the Coto region to Costa Rica.

    Was an U.S. military campaign whose primary purpose was to depose Panama's de facto ruler, General Manuel Noriega, who was wanted by U.S. authorities for racketeering and drug trafficking.

  • December 1989: U.S. forces conquered Fort Amador in the early hours of December 20.
  • December 1989: U.S. operations began with an attack on strategic installations such as the Punta Paitilla civilian airport (Operation "Nifty Package") in Panama, the Panamanian Defense Force garrison and the Rio Hato airfield, where Noriega had a residence.
