Turkey is a country that controls most of the Anatolian Pensinsula and a small portion of the Balkan Peninsula in Southeast Europe. The Republic of Turkey emerged after World War I, when it was formally declared on 29 October 1923 as the successor state of the Ottoman Empire. In 2022 the Republic of Turkey changed its official English name to the Republic of Türkiye.
