The Marquisate of Bodonitsa was originally created as a vassal state of the Kingdom of Thessalonica after the Fourth Crusade. It became a direct vassal of the Latin Empire in 1210. However, after the Latin Empire was conquered by the Byzantines, it became practically independent.
