  • May 1964: May 27, 1964 - today: it is a conflict that began in Colombia in the 60s and is currently being resolved thanks to agreements between the government and the main guerrilla formations. The main parties to the conflict were initially the Colombian state and extreme left guerrilla formations , especially the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the National Liberation Army (ELN). In the 1980s, drug traffickers at the head of drug cartels operating in the country founded paramilitary groups to fight the guerrillas, at times while waging open warfare against the state (so-called narcoterrorism).
