March 1946: March 30, 1946 - October 16, 1949: fought from 1946 to 1949 in Greece between the communist guerrillas (supported by the Yugoslav partisans of the NOF) and the Greek monarchist government supported first by Great Britain and then above all by the United States of America. The war was an extremely delicate moment in the US-USSR confrontation because there was fear of an expansion of Soviet hegemony to the Aegean area.
