January 662: A civil conflict immediately broke out between the two brothers and Godeperto invoked the help of the Duke of Benevento, Grimoaldo. The duke rushed along with substantial military forces but, having arrived in Pavia, killed Godepert and occupied his throne (662). Pertaritus, aware of his obvious inferiority, in turn abandoned the kingdom and fled to the Avars.
January 701: Still a minor at the death of his father Cuniperto, when he ascended the throne he was joined by his tutor Ansprando, duke of Asti. Ragimperto, duke of Turin and also a member of the Bavarian dynasty, immediately rose up, facing the troops of Ansprando and his ally Rotarit, duke of Bergamo, at Novara. Ragimperto won and deposed Liutperto, after just eight months of reign. The second reign Ragimperto died at the end of that same 701 leaving the throne to his son Ariperto II, whom he had already associated. Ansprando and Rotarit reacted immediately and imprisoned Aripert, returning the throne to Liutpert. Aripert, however, managed to escape and collide with the guardians of his antagonist. In 702 he defeated them at Pavia, imprisoned Liutpert and occupied the throne. Shortly after he definitively crushed the opposition of Rotarit and had Liutpert killed, drowned during a bath. A new attempt at revolt was hatched, shortly after, by the duke of Friuli, Corvolo; Aripert defeated him, had him blinded and replaced him with the faithful Pemmone.
