January 698: A few years later, again in Austria, a new rebellion broke out. It was led by the commander of the fortification of Ragogna, near Udine, Ansfrido. After having usurped the throne of the duchy of Friuli, ruled by Rodoaldo, the rebel attempted to occupy that of Pavia as well but, in 698, Cunipert managed to take him prisoner in Verona and condemn him to blindness and exile. In his place he installed a brother of Rodoald loyal to him, Adonis, obtaining the pacification of Austria.
