January 484: Illus rebelled against Zeno, elevating Leontius, a Syrian official, to the throne and appointing Pamprepio as magister officiorum. After some initial victories, Illus' forces were defeated by Zeno's army and forced to take refuge in the fortress of Papurius. Illo discovered that Pamprepio was playing a double game to try to save himself. in November 484 he put him to death and had his head thrown over the ramparts of the fortress.
