  • January 1455: Aden conquered by Tahirids.
  • January 1455: The last Rasulid sultan al-Mas'ud Abu al-Qasim gave up his throne in favour of az-Zafir Amir bin Tahir and withdrew to Mecca.
  • January 1455: In the same year the last Rasulid sultan al-Mas'ud Abu al-Qasim gave up his throne in favour of az-Zafir Amir bin Tahir and withdrew to Mecca. The new ruling clan governed Yemen from 1454-1517 as the Tahirid dynasty.
  • January 1471: The Kathiri conquered Ash-Shihr in the 1460s.
  • January 1481: Around 1480, the Mahri settled the island of Socotra and used it as a strategic base against their rivals in Hadhramaut.
  • January 1514: By 1513 Dahlak had become a vassal of the Tahirids.
  • January 1514: Before British administration, Aden was ruled by the Portuguese between 1513.

Disestablishment

  • January 1517: The sultans of Dahlak and the Tahirids were overthrown by the Mamluks of Egypt.
