Establishment
January 699 BC: Chalkis (Aiolis) was founded by Greek colonists around 700 BC during a wave of Greek colonization in the eastern part of the Aegean Sea, Anatolia, and along the shores of the Black Sea.
January 699 BC: Establishment of the city-state of Mytilene in the 8th century BC.
