January 1601: The Kingdom of Buhaya was a loosely organized Bantu empire from 1600.

January 1626: Ntare I was a powerful ruler of the Kingdom of Burundi in East Africa from around 1625 to 1680. During his reign, the kingdom expanded its territory into what is now the Kagera Region of Tanzania, including the area of Ihangiro.
January 1801: Establishment of Kiziba in Tanganyka.
January 1851: Establishment of Kimwani in the actual Kimwani rural ward in Tanzania.
January 1854: Establishment of the Kingdom of East Ussuwi as a split from the Kingdom of Buzinja (Buzinza).
July 1890: German colonial rule began for Buhaya in 1890. In July, Germany and Great Britain laid down their territorial claims.
