The Odrysian Kingdom, the largest political entity in the Balkans, was divided among three competing kings after the death of King Cotys: Cersebleptes, Amadocus, and Berisades.

Establishment

  • January 358 BC: The death of Odrysian king Cotys marked the beginning of the kingdom's downfall. The Odrysian state was divided among three competing kings: Cersebleptes, the son of Cotys, ruled the eastern parts beyond the lower Hebros and Tonzos.

    1. Wars of the Rise of Macedon

    Expansion of Macedonia under King Philip II.

    1.1.Third Sacred War

    Was fought between the forces of the Delphic Amphictyonic League, principally represented by Thebes, and latterly by Philip II of Macedon, and the Phocians.

  • July 346 BC: Following the first Athenian embassy to Macedon, Philip went on campaign against Kersebleptes. Details of the campaign are scarce, but it seems that Philip easily captured the Thracian treasury on the "Sacred Mountain". Then, rather than deposing Kersebleptes, he made him a subject ally.
